We traveled 292 miles from Glacier View to Chicken on the Alaska 1 North, the Glenn Highway – Tok cutoff, and the Taylor Highway. Another amazing drive with so much to see – endless forest, rolling hills and mountains.
Chicken was founded in the 1890s by prospectors mining for gold. The early miners wanted to name their camp ptarmigan but they were unable to spell it so they named the town Chicken. The population is 23 in the summer and 7 in the winter. We are staying in Chicken Gold Camp.
